First Conference of Women Librarians’ Association of Assam (WLAA): 

First conference of Women Librarians' Association of Assam(WLAA) was organized at Dibru College, Dibrugarh on April 22, 2023. Dr. Alka Buragohain, retired professor of Gauhati University, who was at the forefront of the development of library science in Assam; Prof. Dr. Bhimkanta Baruah, Retired Head of The Department of Assamese, Dibrugarh University, Dr. Chandana Gogoi, In-charge Principal of Dibru College, Dr. Jyotika Devi, President of WLAA, Dr. Bina Lahkar, Retired Assistant Librarian, Krishnakanta Handique Library, Gauhati University were present on the event. Prof. Bhimkanta Barua addressed the gathering and urged librarians to take the lead in preserving the manuscripts available in different parts of Assam for future generations. IASLIC President and Retired Professor of Gauhati University Narendra Lahkar delivered the keynote address of the program. In his speech, he explained the responsibilities of librarians in the development of the society. Dr Badan Barman, Assistant Professor, Gauhati University delivered a special lecture in the event covering various aspects that is essential for quality education and research in present context. Dr. Kankana Baishya, General Secretary of WLAA gave a brief overview of the present status and future plans of the Women Librarians' Association of Assam. In the event, Smt. Chhaya Sutradhar, retired librarian of Tinsukia Girls' College received the 'Shanti Das Memorial Best Women Librarian Award' for the year 2023 for her lifelong contribution towards library science. More than hundred participants including librarians, academicians, researchers, students from different parts of Assam were present in this conference which was help with objectives to discuss the need of education and research in the development of the society and remembering the contribution of the people associated with library science in the history of Assam. In the Delegates' Meeting of WLAA, new  constitution of WLAA was adopted and the previous Executive Committee was formalized. In the day-long conference two books titled 'Praggnanan (Gateway of Knowledge)' and 'Ekatra' were released. The event concluded with an enchanting cultural programme. Vote of thanks was delivered by Mrs Dipika Das, Librarian, Dibru College .
